This palette has been embroiled in debate since its debut, with many makeup enthusiasts on YouTube highlighting issues ranging from fallout to inconsistent application.
Recently, I stumbled upon a gem during my TJ Maxx spree - the Subculture Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills, priced at an attractive $24.99. For many, the speculation was that its lukewarm reception would lead it to discount shelves like TJ Maxx. Much to my delight, I found it there. While I hadn't previously dabbled with an Anastasia palette, their reputation for high-quality brow products and vibrant palettes like the Modern Renaissance had me eager to experiment.
Although originally tagged at $42 on the brand's official website, TJ Maxx offered it for a steal. My vision? A captivating look spotlighting the palette's green and duochrome shades. The mustard and olive tones merged smoothly, but challenges arose with 'UNTAMED' - it proved patchy and resisted blending. Yet, a combination of the green duochrome shade and careful tool choices - switching between a flat brush and my fingertip - somewhat saved the day. The overall pigment and texture were impressive, but its application might pose a challenge for beginners. Still, with some creativity, a smokey look with a winged liner tied everything together. 'CUBE', 'NEW WAVE', and 'EDGE' shades were notable highlights.
However, it's worth noting that the palette's green hues appeared darker than anticipated, echoing more charcoal than olive.
The Palette's Social Media Saga
As highlighted by Allure, amidst the buzz around Anastasia Beverly Hills' upcoming Norvina Palette, there was a whisper that the Subculture Palette's days are numbered. This was subtly confirmed by the brand on Instagram, hinting at making space for fresh offerings. Given Subculture's initial controversies, this revelation didn't astound many. There were even murmurs of it popping up at Marshalls, and fans are anxiously wondering if favorites like the Modern Renaissance might be next to face the axe.
What set Subculture apart was its cool-toned colors, a refreshing break from the warm reds and oranges that dominate the scene. Despite its challenges, it'll leave a mark in the beauty world. Meanwhile, makeup enthusiasts, like myself, are eagerly awaiting what Anastasia Beverly Hills will unveil next."
